Mit polityczny, jako zjawisko mające kluczowy wpływ na współczesną rzeczywistość polityczno - prawną, od czasu jego powstania podlegało licznym przekształceniom, a jego postrzeganie przez badaczy ulegało znaczącym zmianom. Zaprezentowane zestawienie koncepcji autorstwa Georgesa Sorela i Ernsta Cassirera, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem ich aspektów funkcjonalnych, pozwala nie tylko przyjrzeć się powyższej zmianie, ale także ukazać wady każdego z ujęć mitu, oraz zrozumieć kontekst wpływający na odmienne rozumienie pojęcia przez obu autorów.

Political myth, as a phenomenon which has a crucial impact on todays legal and political reality, has undergone some serious transformation since its creation. Also the way it is perceived by the researchers has changed. A comparison of different concepts of the political myth – by Georges Sorel and Ernst Cassirer, presented in this article, while focusing mostly on their funcional aspects, allows not only to examine the change of the myth’s perception, but also to present the flaws of both attitudes and to understand the whole context behind the different understanding of the political myth by both authors.
